What is Infrared and how does it affect my body?

Infrared is simply a wavelength next to the color red on the electromagnetic spectrum that is invisible to the human eye, but is felt as heat. Some common examples of infrared heat are found in incubators for newborns, heat lamps for pets, and toaster ovens. Infrared heats the body rather than warming just the air, raising the core body temperature and producing a deep detoxifying sweat at the cellular level where most toxins reside. We use Sunlighten Sauna's - the best in the industry.

Infrared Sauna Therapy

Arthritis

Many people in the United States suffer from arthritis, an almost unavoidable and  debilitating condition that leaves sufferers with significant joint pain, stiffness, fatigue, and a reduction in the range of motion as we age. Research has demonstrated that the regular use of a far infrared therapy helps alleviate the symptoms, especially if sauna therapy is used as a part of the person's overall treatment regimen for their condition.

Cardiovascular

Infrared saunas are backed by clinical research that shows a reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Both are key factors in maintaining a healthy heart.

Infrared saunas induce a deep sweat to make the heart pump faster, which in turn increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure and helps circulation. Scientific evidence shows the infrared sauna benefits using an infrared sauna a couple times a week lowers blood pressure. Come check out the only Sunlighten Infrared Sauna in Hampstead!

Cancer Patients

For cancer specifically, infrared sauna treatments are exceptionally promising because of the selective toxicity they have on cells. In a nutshell, the hyperthermic effects of infrared radiation are only harmful to malignant cells, as was explained by Dr. Irvin Sahni in a "Truth About Cancer" docu-series interview. Dr. Sahni explained that normal healthy cells are essentially immune to infrared radiation, while cancer cells are hyper-thermically challenged.

Another study published in the Journal of Cancer Science and Therapy found that after just 30 days of infrared treatment, tumor-infected mice saw reductions in their cancerous masses of up to 86% − even with low-temperature infrared exposures of as little as 77 degrees fahrenheit.

Chemotherapy Patients

While many of the side effects are seen during and shortly after chemotherapy, there are some additional long-term side effects that may persist for months or years after treatment including mood swings, depression and short-term memory loss, according to an article published by Medical News Today. A study published in the Alternative Medicine Review reported that patients who received sauna therapy for chronic pain measured in with not only diminished pain behaviors, but also with lower anger levels as well. By utilizing Infrared Sauna therapy after you've finished your chemotherapy treatment, you can begin your new journey to repairing and detoxifying your over-worked cells.

Chronic Pain

One of the most compelling  and most popular reasons patients decide on sauna use is the natural pain relief associated with infrared sauna therapy.

Infrared sauna heat penetrates tissue, joints and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and pains to chronic pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia. Pain management professionals incorporate infrared sauna heat therapy into treatment plans to decrease pain and muscle spasms and to speed up recovery time. Pain management is the most popular reason why patients come to see us. When integrated into a full wellness plan that includes massage and acupuncture, many patients experience an expedited road to recovery.

Detoxification

image57

Sweating is good for you. It is the body’s safe and natural way to heal and stay healthy. Sunlighten far infrared sauna detoxification happens by heating the body directly, causing a rise in core temperature. This results in a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside.

“Detoxification is important because it strengthens the body’s immune system and helps the body’s biochemical processes function efficiently so that we are better able to digest the nutrients in our foods. Detoxification has also been shown to be helpful with colitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease, immune deficiency states, autism, ADD and ADHD.”  -Dr. Rachel West

Skin Purification

image58

As part of a sauna skin therapy program, our infrared sauna helps restore skin to a youthful appearance. Our saunas are designed so that the skin on your entire body – from face to feet – will benefit from a sauna therapy session.

The infrared wavelengths are the most effective wavelengths for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Infrared treatments stimulate collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone. These wavelengths target deeper down, removing toxins that can have a negative impact on your skin.

Sleep & Stress Relief

image59

Unlike traditional saunas which operate at extremely harsh temperatures, infrared is a gentle, soothing and therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation and improved sleep. Infrared sauna benefits include therapy that helps you relax while receiving an invigorating deep-tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed after each session.

Wound Healing

image60

Infrared heating technology has the unique ability to heal wounds faster and minimize scarring through the use of frequent sauna use. Clinical studies show that near infrared therapy greatly enhances the skin’s healing process by promoting faster cell regeneration and human tissue growth. Human cell growth increases to repair wounds and prevent infection.

Work Out Recovery

image61

Infrared saunas help eliminate and push out lactic acids and toxins released during workouts, and help increase blood flow throughout the body so that muscles feel rejuvenated, relaxed and less sore.

It is also paired well as a pre-workout warm up if you know you'll be challenged with strenuous exercise.

Weight Loss

image62

Infrared saunas promote weight loss by detoxifying the body and burning calories while you relax in total comfort.

Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories. Wear your heart rate tracking device, and see for yourself.

Why Infrared? What's the difference?

Traditional Steam Sauna

image63

In a traditional sauna, perspiration is achieved when the bather enters a heated room. When a traditional sauna has been properly heated, the sauna walls are warm, the air temperature has achieved set temperature and the rocks are super heated. The process for heating the room most often involves an electric heater that heats a compartment of stones, which then radiate the heat throughout the room.  Most traditional sauna users enjoy pouring water over the rocks to create steam to raise sauna humidity levels.

FIR light waves are capable of altering cells, cell membranes, DNA/proteins and cell fluids, including and especially water molecules. At the cellular level, altered cell membranes and mitochondrial activity take place, which positively impact the metabolism. FIR photons are absorbed by the bonds in the body’s molecules, and the way that water functions within our cells is altered. FIR also has a “meso-structure” effect, where proteins within bodily tissues change in a way that’s important for overall biological activity.
